IDP League Set-Up
Getting ready for an IDP league mock draft will require you to adjust the roster settings, and scoring settings, and filling out which IDP positions your league features. The Draft Dominator will automatically include the IDP positions you designate into the player pool - once you have set up the IDP league draft variables, you'll proceed to draft or auction players just as you would in a non-IDP league (but you'll have many more positions to fill and a much larger bench to round out).
Set Up IDP League Basic Settings
The Draft Dominator is preset to default to a 12-team league, with 18 rounds of drafting. For an IDP league, you'll need to increase the number of rounds to accommodate the individual defensive players. All of these basic settings are found under the Gear button drop-down menu - pick Basic Settings. See the graphic below:
Please note, that the number of rounds in the draft must correspond to the total number of roster spots in your league.
If you have more or fewer teams in your league, click the drop-down menu and set the correct # of teams corresponding to your league. Any of these basic settings can be tweaked to fit your particular league by simply clicking the drop-down menu next to the appropriate item.
Set Up Teams and Draft Order
The next category to address is Teams and Draft Order - this menu is where you tell the Dominator what sort of draft you'll be running on draft day. The program is preset to Serpentine/Snake, but can be set to these other options: 3rd Round Reversal; 2nd Half Flip; Linear/NFL Style; or Fully Customized.
The next item of business is to set which of the teams in the draft maps onto your pick. Click Edit Team next to the correct team and you will see a blue button that says "Make This My Team" on the right-hand side of the pop-up box. Click this blue "Make This My Team" button to tell the Dominator which picks are yours for this particular league's draft. Once you have set up these options, click the green Done button at the bottom right of the pop-up box to save these settings.
Set Up IDP League Scoring
Next up - Scoring Settings. You can adapt the Dominator to your league's scoring requirements by toggling through each scoring category on the left-hand side of the pop-up box. We've already pre-set each position for the most common scoring conventions for each category (Passing; Rushing; Receiving; Fumbles; Kicking; Kick Return; Punt Return; Defense (IDP); and Team Defense), but you'll want to cross-check these settings with your league's rules. If you find something that differs from the pre-set parameters - no problem. Just click the drop-down box next to the appropriate item and edit in your league's scoring. For an IDP league, you might have variable scoring per individual defensive position. See the graphic below:
This can be set by going to the Defense (IDP) tab on the left of the Scoring Settings pop-up box and then toggling on the Different Per Position switch. Then you simply select the IDP position you need to review and adjust the scoring formulas next to Pts Per Tackle (or Pts Per Assist, etc.,) as necessary.
Set Up IDP League Lineup Requirements
We also need to tell the Dominator how many players start at each position in your league - this is under the Lineup Settings menu in the Gear Button drop-down menu. Draft Dominator assumes that your league starts one quarterback, two running backs, three wide receivers, one tight end, one kicker, one team defense, and one RB/WR/TE flex position. For an IDP league, we'll need to zero out the team defense line and then enter the required individual defensive players who start for your particular league. For the purposes of this guide, we'll assume that your league starts 11 players at the following proportions: 2 DE, 1 DT, 2 OLB, 2 ILB, 2 CB and 2 S. Even if your particular league has the ability to flex between a 3-4 and 4-3 defensive front starting requirements (for instance, to make it easier to deal with bye weeks), it's probably best to assume for the purposes of the draft that you'll start four linebackers as the standard lineup (even though some weeks you might be forced to go with three). If your league lumps defensive linemen into one category (or linebackers, or defensive backs), you can use the designated groupings on the Lineup Settings menu to simulate these lineup requirements, too - just remember to designate the correct total number of individual defensive starters (usually 11). It is a mistake to tell the Draft Dominator that your league starts 4 Linebackers and 2 Outside Linebackers and 2 Inside Linebackers - this would be telling the app your league starts 8 total linebackers each week.
