The Draft Dominator uses the same algorithm as our website Cheatsheets for generating fantasy points. It is our recommended way of using fantasy points over the classic Draft Dominator or VBD Excel App.
The first step is to calculate the "raw" fantasy points. This is the number you might do by hand; our projections are multiplied through your scoring system.
However, if you draft solely off this number, you will draft a player like Geno Smith over Deshaun Watson (writing this in 2022 when Watson was suspended for the first 11 games).
While Geno will be projected for more total points, Watson's points per game are significantly higher. His points are concentrated in the last 6 games of the season, not over all 17. During those first 11 games, you can start another player and get that other player's and Watson's points. That opportunity doesn't exist for Geno.
To accommodate this, the Draft Dominator adds onto the "raw" fantasy points total a factor based on a) the average player you might start from the waiver wire in Watson's place, and b) the number of games Watson is projected to miss.
It is this factor that means the points totals displayed are higher than what you might manually calculate.
If you hover over the "FPts" column in the app, it gives a briefer description. Similar descriptions are available on all columns in the app by hovering over them in Draft Dominator Online:
